Barzakh

 

Barzakh (the next world hereafter) or the world of example is the world maybe reached by Ebdals (changed ones) while still in this world. Barzakh, in a sense, is something that is maintain­ing between two affairs. For example, the distance be­tween two severities and the distance between two waters is called Barzakh. When the human soul separates from the body, while the hardness and easiness of separation de­pends on rightness and wrongness of the deeds during the lifetime, the soul will be settled in a world that is be­tween this world of feeling and the world of futurity, that is Barzakh.

From the point of view of philosophers the existing world is divided into four levels: the first is this material world, this world of body and feeling where we are ac­tually spending our lives. The second level is the world of example or Barzakh. The third level is the world of souls and the fourth level is the world of attributes (qualities) of Exalted God.

The world of body is the world of material that has shape, size, dimension, colour, taste and all the proper­ties of matter like soil, stone, tree and the body of hu­mans. The beings in the world of example (Barzakh) do not have matter but the particularities and attributes of matter like shape, colour and taste.

The human soul after the end of this material life, when completed, will be settled in a fine, delicate, non-material body. Yet, because of similarity to this elemental material body, the non-material body is called the body of ex­ample or the mould of example, that is neither completely immaterial nor merely material, but a kind of perilous (precarious) immaterial situation.

The beings of Barzakh (an interstice, interval between death and resurrection) have an effigy or image of body but have neither matter to occupy space nor mass.  To sense the truth of beings of Barzakh, to understand and to become aware of the world of example is not so easy because Barzakh is a level higher than this material world that Barzakh encompasses, and this world we are in is encompassed.

Therefore, to have a sensation of what the world of Bar­zakh could be like, may be compared to the state of a dream during normal sleep, as in the true vision or dream. The human soul by using the mould of example (immaterial body) wanders around out of dimension and sees, views or takes benefits from the graces and enjoys; and sometimes, by observing the frightful scenarios be­comes uncomfortable, yet, the interstice of the human dream is far weaker than the world of example.

 

The enjoyment and discomfort of the world hereafter depends on the righteousness and incorrectness of deeds in this material world. Upon correct and right­eous deeds the immaterial body illuminates; likewise, upon incorrect deeds the example mould darkens. Those who transcend the body towards the soul and become all soul, their mould of example illuminates; those who thicken their soul towards the level of body and become predominated by the body forces, their mould of example darkens. The light cuts the darkness; the lighted ones find the way towards the light of the lights. But dark remains in the darkness. We must totally become soul in order to become worthy of the soul of the souls (beloved).

The world of dream is lower than this perceptible and visible world of matter, whereas this visible world we are in may be a world of dream compared to the world of example. As this world is considered as a sample of the world of example, so is the world of example a sample of the world of resurrection and the world of resurrection a sample of the world of names and entire attributes of God. Therefore, to appre­hend, to understand and perceive the world of example completely is not possible by the human five sensations (senses) because these sensations are for the connection of the human with the world of material. Then, the truth of Barzakh principally may not be designated to be brought down and shown in the mirror of matter. How­ever, what the world of material shows in itself is only of the size of the exterior and capacity of the matter itself.

Summing up this subject, the world of example, called the world of Barzakh, is a world of higher level than this material world of feeling and the world of imagination. It is situated between this world we are in and the Great Resurrection. After having been separated from the body, the soul is situated in a fine and delicate mould named the mould of example, that has very much resemblance with this material body, and after transmi­grating continues to live on in that world. The world of Barzakh has some of the peculiarities and specifications like colour, shape, taste and others that are not exactly of the same kind in the world of matter. The world of example is a world where everyone observes one’s place of settlement in the Great Resurrection.

Transmigration is when a self (Nafs) leaves the effigy and obtains another effigy higher than the first face, such as, the first partial Nafs at first had the face-of- element, left the face-of-element and obtained the face-of-plant, left the plant-face and obtained the face-of-animal, left the face-of-animal and obtained the face-of-human, left the human-face and obtained the face-of-angels.

Metamorphosis is when a Nafs leaves the effigy and changes to a minor shape (face); that means, when the partial Nafs at the level of the human does not obtain the completion (perfection of the soul), after not obtaining the completion lives like beasts and gains their characteristics and does many rebellions and sins, upon separation from the mould again will return to the level of the characteristic of the speechless animal, will be assembling the characteristic of the animal that was predominating at the time of separation and from the level of animal assembling plant and from plant to solid assembling minerals.

Upon separation from the mould, the way is long: going to a higher level, whatever is with goes higher, and going lower, whatever is with goes lower.

The statement that ADAM was descended at a mountain in Ceylon called “the supposed footing of ADAM” may be considered in the manner of transmigration, which means, in that situation, the level of animal transcended to the level of human, and he was the first human and in this first human the sperm was made apparent and the rest of his children appeared from his sperm.

Whoever does not spoil, damage and rot the lifetime and accepts the saying of the sages and obtains the completion of life will be joint with celestial angels and souls.

Any face that appears in this world and becomes qualified for a quality and an attribute, as this face departs from this world, and a face appears with that same quality and was named with that same attribute, is the same on account of proportion and relation, not on the account of metempsychosis (transmigration of soul), because, when a thousand times water is taken from the sea and poured back to the sea, each time that water taken is the same water on account of relation but not that same water on account of reality.

Take effort to think of truth, be silent or speak the truth. Try hard and endeavour correct deeds and struggle to help others till you become secure of yourself and others safe from you.
